The air we breathe, the water we drink and the food we eat is quickly becoming toxic due to a crazed outsider seeking to poison all of Earth!

Superman, and the Green Lantern, stand on the dead world, Monson. The Green Arrow is arrested and hauled out of the city manager's office. The Atom, the Batman, the Black Canary, and the Vigilante are slowly being lowered into a boiling cauldron of acid. Outside the city manager's office, the Green Arrow is released. The Green Arrow decides to join the Justice League of America's investigation of a factory. There, the Green Arrow arrives, in the nick of time, to rescue the Justice League of America, and the Vigilante. The Green Arrow revives the team with an oxygen arrow, just as they're attacked by a security force of automatons.

The automatons break off the assault, as a portion of the factory launches into space. Superman, and the Green Lantern, discover the sole surviving inhabitant of Monson. With his dying breath, he tells his tale. The population of Monson died due to the industrial pollutants that contaminated their atmosphere and ecosystem. Their leader, Chokh, found that a small percentage of the planet's inhabitants could be genetically altered to survive, even thrive, in the polluted environment. The process, however, twisted their minds. Chokh, and his followers, left Monson, to seek out new worlds to ruin, through industrial pollutants, as a prelude to colonization. The alien dies.

The Green Lantern prepares to destroy Monsan, with his power ring, only to be stopped by Superman. The Man of Steel feels that the dead world should serve as a monument to man's ignorance. The Justice League of America contact the Hawkman, requesting his aid. In a Thanagarian spacecraft, the Hawkman pursues the orbiting piece of factory. The factory facade shatters, revealing a small space craft. The aliens target and fire on the Hawkman's vessel. Though the Hawkman is able to escape his ship, the explosive force of the blast renders him unconscious, and adrift in space. Chokh steps up his timetable in destroying the Earth. Chokh informs the populace of Earth of their imminent doom.

Superman, and the Green Lantern, return to Earth, in time to rescue the Hawkman from certain death. Superman, and the Green Lantern, storm the Doomsters' ship, and disable it's control systems, while subduing the crew. Chokh, however, escapes, and manages to board the Justice League of America's satellite headquarters. Chokh subdues the Vigilante, then takes the Black Canary hostage. The Atom manages to get the drop on Chokh, garnering the Black Canary's safety. Upon unmasking Chokh, the alien immediately begins suffocating in the fresh air of the satellite. Though the crisis has ended, the Green Arrow, staring out at a factory releasing industrial pollutants into the air, doubts the world has truly been saved.
